Dr. Wu Jianzhong was elected to be president of Shanghai
Society for Library Science in January 2003.
The
State Department of China granted Dr.Wu Jianzhong a
special award for his outstanding contribution in 2002.
BIT-ONLINE, a German journal published an interview
called Interview mit Dr. Wu Jianzhong, Shanghai Library
on the fourth issue of 2002.
Public Library Journal (V.17, no. 4) issued a group of
articles about Glasgow IFLA, including Wu Jianzhong’s

The
Shanghai Library has translated the version of
Revised IFLA Statutes and Rules of Procedure
into the Chinese.
The
Seminar of Knowledge Management and Metadata was held on
23-25 June 2000 by OCLC Institute and Shanghai Library.
Mr. Jul Eric, Dr. Hwa-wei Lee and Dr. Wu Jianzhong made
their presentations. There are about 70 people attended
the Seminar.

On 21st
December 1999, Wu received a fax from Mr. Ross Shimmon,
secretary general of IFLA, inviting Wu Jianzhong to be a
member of the Advisory Group for revising the IFLA
Statutes. There are altogether seven persons in the
Group with Marjorie Bloss as chairperson.

Library of the 21st century was awarded the
First Price of the library literatures by the Shanghai
Society for Library Science on 23rd December 1999.
Teleconference
A
teleconference organized by the North Suburban Library
System (NSLS), Chicago, USA, was held at 9:55 a.m.
(Beijing time 23:55 p.m.) on 16 November 1999. It was
chaired by Ms. Sarah Ann Long, the president of American
Library Association, and attended by 20 public library
directors of the System. Wu Jianzhong made a 25-minute
presentation on public library development in Shanghai
and answered some questions.

Discussion Group meeting
Wu
Jianzhong attended the Internet Discussion Group meeting
at the 65th IFLA conference in Bangkok and co-chaired
one of the sections with Edward Valauskas, Chicago
Gotanic Garden Library (USA).
